KRP Open Gym Night:
January 13th

"The birds
are gone, The ground is white
The winds are wild, They chill and bite;
The ground is thick with slush and sleet,
And I can barely feel my feet."
-winter poems
That often sounds like the kind of January that many of us
are used to; doesn't it? The fact is that while January is
often bleak and cold, there are still many exciting events
going on at Mulberry Grove Elementary and I would like to
remind you of them.
Of course, the students return to school on January 6, 2009
for the beginning of the second semester of the school year.
Report cards will be given to the students on Friday,
January 9. That will also be the beginning of the Spelling
Bee Season. Students in grades four, five, and six will be
given a test to determine whom will represent their class in
the school spelling bee.
The Pre-K program will have an Open Gym Night on
January 13 from 6:00 to 7:00 PM. This is only for
the students in the Pre-K program, of course, but it is a
chance for students and their parents to have some special
time together and get some great exercise.
On Friday, January 16, at 9:00 AM, we will have an
Honors Assembly in the gym for the students in grades
4-5-6. We will be recognizing students who have earned High
Honors and Honors for the first semester.
There will be no school on Monday, January 19, 2009 as we
honor the great civil rights leader, Dr. Martin Luther King,
Jr.
We will conduct the Mulberry Grove Elementary School
Spelling Bee at 9:00 AM on Friday, January 23. The
pronouncer will be Mrs. Rice, and the judges will be Mrs.
Adams, Mrs. Hartlieb, and Mrs. Whited. Mrs. Kirsch will be
the recorder for the event.
We will begin our Elementary Basketball season on January 26
with a 4:00 PM game at Ramsey and then we will have our
first home game on Thursday, January 29 with a 4:00 PM game
against Vandalia in our gym.
During our basketball season, students will not be
allowed to stay after school unless they are one of the
ballplayers or cheerleaders.
We are looking forward to the month of January and the bleak
coldness of that month is actually a thing of beauty and an
inspiration to many poets. We should remind students to wear
warm coats, hats, and gloves since we never can anticipate
the weather in that month.
January is the beginning of the second semester and I hope
that all of us will dedicate ourselves to do our best and to
treat others as well as we can.
