Board of Education Meeting - November 17, 2008 @ 7:00 p.m.
Regular November Meeting
The Mulberry Grove Community Unit School District #1 Board of Education met on November 17, 2008 @ 7:03 p.m. for the purpose of the Regular November Board of Education meeting. Present were members Mark Blankenship, Kevin Lewis, Bill Johnson, Teresa Tompkins, Keith Steiner, Sara Johnson & Mike Kendall. Also present were Superintendent, Greg Irwin; Dean of Students, Ryan Bauer; Teachers: Candy Kirsch & Annette Hartlieb; Guests: Tom Dooly, WGEL Radio; Bill Walker, Greenville Advocate. All votes 7-0, unless noted.
In Regular business the Board approved the Treasurer’s report and Board bills as presented. During the Visitor and staff communication portion of the meeting, Joe Wright of Central States Buses, St. Louis presented the Board information regarding the renewal of the District Bus Lease. According to Mr. Wright the renewal process would allow the district to once again upgrade the seven bus fleet at a nominal cost increase to the District. This action would allow the District to upgrade all new vehicles with a three year parts and labor warranty. The Board tabled action for further study and will readdress the issue at the Regular December Board of Education meeting.
Dean Bauer discussed several current events from Mulberry Grove JH/SH. Mr. Bauer congratulated the MGHS Rocket team on receiving one of eleven grants across the nation sponsored by the NASA space agency. The fall school play went over very well, with a dinner theater planned for this spring. The MGHS Basketball team will be hosting the annual Turkey Tournament beginning Monday, November 24th, through Saturday November 30th. Thank you to all that were able to attend the Fall Parent/Teacher Conferences; the conferences were well attended and successful by all measures. The District’s Christmas/Holiday Program will be held on Monday December 1st @ 7:00 p.m. Come and join us for some holiday cheer!
Superintendent Irwin presented the Board with updates on the OBM & Life Safety work. The MGES roofing and tuck pointing projects are in final stages of completion. Plans for the replacement of the District freezer, and additional sidewalk repair are moving forward as scheduled. These projects are expected to be completed before the holiday break in December. Mr. Irwin presented the Board with additional information regarding the 08 Tentative Tax Levy. The Tentative levy will be on display until the December 15, 2008 Truth in Taxation Hearing. Any adjustments to the District Levy will be discussed at that time. The Mulberry Grove Board of Education will approve the District’s 08 Levy at the December 15, 2008 Regular BOE meeting.
The Board went to closed session @ 8:39 p.m. to discuss Personnel, finance & negotiations, and returned to open session @ 8:59 p.m. Board action included the following:
- The Board approved the display of the Tentative District 08 Levy effective 11/18/08 as presented.
- The Board tabled discussion regarding the renewal of the District’s bus lease, for further action at the December 2008 Board meeting.
- The Board approved the ’09 Senior trip Itinerary as presented.

Next meeting: The Annual truth in taxation Hearing/Levy Hearing & Regular December meeting for the Mulberry Grove Board of Education will be Monday, December 15, 2008. The meeting will be held in the MG CUSD #1 District Media Center @ 6:30 & 7:00 p.m. respectively. |
